INDems Stands with LGBTQ Hoosiers Against Discriminatory Bills

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization advocating for the future of Indiana and its families and workers, stands with LGBTQ Hoosiers and other advocacy groups as they rally at the Statehouse to protest the record number of discriminatory bills introduced by the Republican supermajority that target the LGBTQ community, including the INGOP’s draconian “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

The “Don’t Say Gay” bill, also known as HB 1608, seeks to prohibit the discussion of LGBTQ issues in public schools, effectively erasing the existence and experiences of LGBTQ people. Such bills are not only discriminatory but also an attack on the basic human rights of an already vulnerable population.

Indiana isn’t Indiana without LGBTQ Hoosiers, and it is imperative to ensure their equal rights and protection under the law. Unfortunately, the Indiana Republicans have a long history of attacking the LGBTQ community and marginalized in our state, and these bills are just the latest examples of their discriminatory and harmful actions.

Chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party Mike Schmuhl issued the following statement in support of the LGBTQ community:

“The strength and resilience of our state lies in its diversity, and the LGBTQ community is an essential part of that diversity. It is disheartening to see discriminatory bills being introduced and moving through our statehouse. Indiana Democrats stand in solidarity with the entire LGBTQ community and will continue to fight against any efforts to infringe upon the rights and freedoms of Hoosiers.”

Indiana Democrats urge all Hoosiers to stand with the LGBTQ community and make their voices heard against discrimination and the record number of anti-LGBTQ bills.

Let’s elect more Hoosier Democrats
We can't sit this one out.
